6016 Aluminum Alloy Sheet for Automotive Outer Panels

With the continuous pursuit of automotive lightweighting, aluminum alloys are progressively replacing traditional steel sheets. As an Al-Mg-Si series automotive sheet, 6016 aluminum alloy features outstanding formability, bake-hardening properties and premium surface quality. It is the top choice for passenger car outer body panels, including doors, hoods, trunk lids and fenders.

6016-T4P Aluminum for Automotive Lightweight Outer Panels

6016-T4P is a pre-aged (T4P) Al-Mg-Si (6xxx series) aluminum alloy sheet specially designed for automotive outer body panels. Its core characteristic: soft and formable during stamping, with increased strength after paint baking. It is developed for exterior panels such as vehicle doors, hoods, trunk lids and fenders.

Applications

Ideal for automotive outer panels such as hoods, doors, trunk lids and fenders. It is a key lightweight material for both conventional fuel vehicles and new energy vehicles globally.

Key Benefits

Superior Deep Drawing Performance

High elongation and controlled springback deliver reliable drawing, flanging and hemming capability. Perfect for complex, curved and streamlined body designs. It minimizes cracking during stamping, raises first-pass yield and fits automated mass stamping production.

Significant Weight Reduction

Aluminum alloy is far less dense than steel. It can reduce part weight by around 45% versus steel equivalents, lowering overall vehicle weight, cutting energy consumption and extending the driving range of EVs.

Great Corrosion Resistance

This Al-Mg-Si alloy offers strong resistance to atmospheric and salt spray corrosion. It works steadily in rainy, coastal and other harsh environments, protecting the car body and extending service life.

Wide Process Compatibility & High Recyclability

It supports common joining methods for auto bodies, including laser welding, spot welding and self-piercing riveting. Aluminum is highly recyclable, low-carbon and eco-friendly, matching the sustainable goals of the automotive industry.
