What’s DP (Dual Phase) Steel?
No yield extension, no room-temperature aging, low yield/tensile strength ratio, high strain hardening exponent and high bake hardening value.
The microstructure is mainly composed of ferrite and martensite. Martensite islands disperse in the ferrite matrix. The soft ferrite makes the material have better formability, and the hard martensite makes the material have high strength. The coordination of strength and plasticity is realized through dual phase, so as to improve the comprehensive properties of dual phase steel.
DP steel is preferred to manufacture structural parts. The product of low yield ratio is widely applied to A-pillar reinforcement, B-pillar reinforcement. and other parts, while the product of high yield ratio is mainly used for underbody cross member, threshold, door anti-collision beam, seat frame, battery pack frame structure and other parts.
Product Overview
HC340/590DP is a 590 MPa class cold rolled dual phase steel designed for automotive structural components that require a combination of strength, formability and energy absorption. Its ferrite-martensite microstructure provides a relatively low yield-to-tensile strength ratio and high work-hardening capability, making it suitable for stamped parts with demanding structural requirements.
Compared with conventional high-strength low-alloy steels at similar yield strength levels, HC340/590DP offers higher tensile strength and favorable deformation characteristics for appropriately designed automotive components.
Typical applications include automotive seat structures, body reinforcements, chassis brackets and selected crash-energy management components.
Solucky Steel supplies HC340/590DP steel coils and sheets for automotive stamping and component manufacturing, with slitting and cut-to-length processing available according to order requirements.
Our cold rolled DP dual phase steel series covers three mainstream automotive grades:HC340/590DP, HC420/780DP, HC700/980DP. With low yield ratio, stable stamping performance and outstanding crash resistance, this graded DP steel lineup fully meets lightweight and high-strength requirements for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and new energy vehicles. All grades have clean cold-rolled surface, excellent weldability and batch stability for mass automotive production.

HC340/590DP is used in automotive structural and reinforcement components where high tensile strength must be combined with controlled forming performance.
HC340/590DP can be selected for seat frame brackets, supporting structures and stamped reinforcement parts. Its strength and work-hardening characteristics support the production of formed components that must withstand mechanical loads.
The combination of ferrite and martensite enables HC340/590DP to provide useful strength and ductility for body-in-white reinforcements, including selected pillar and sill reinforcement components.
HC340/590DP offers a suitable material option for formed chassis brackets and structural supports where strength, geometry and manufacturing requirements must be balanced.
The work-hardening behavior of dual phase steel makes HC340/590DP relevant to selected automotive components designed to undergo controlled deformation during impact. Final material selection depends on component geometry, crash simulation and validation testing.
HC340/590DP and HC340LA are both cold rolled high-strength automotive steels, but they use different strengthening mechanisms and are designed for different performance requirements.
| Comparison | HC340/590DP | HC340LA |
|---|---|---|
| Steel Type | Dual Phase Steel (DP) | High Strength Low Alloy Steel (HSLA) |
| Microstructure | Ferrite and martensite | Predominantly ferritic with microalloy strengthening |
| Strength Characteristics | Higher tensile strength at a comparable yield strength | Strength developed through microalloying and grain refinement |
| Work Hardening | High initial work-hardening capability | Generally lower than DP steel |
| Typical Applications | Body reinforcements, structural supports, energy-absorbing parts | Chassis brackets, structural supports, formed automotive parts |
Choose HC340/590DP when automotive components require a combination of high tensile strength, work-hardening performance and formability.
HC340LA remains an option for structural components where its mechanical properties meet the design requirements and cost efficiency is a priority.
Material substitution should be confirmed against the applicable specification, forming process and component validation requirements.
